Winfield Recreation Commission (WRC) provides scholarships for the financially disadvantaged youth in Winfield to participate in WRC programs at a FREE or reduced cost. Each year since starting the scholarship program, the number of youth scholarships awarded by WRC has increased.
In Fiscal Year 2016/17 WRC awarded 337 scholarships totaling $15,916.
A memorial for Joe Thornton, the first and longtime Recreation Superintendent for WRC, established the scholarship fund. Available funds have been depleted. WRC needs help from the community to fund future program scholarships for area youth. Please consider a donation for this worthy cause and help keep the youth in Winfield active and healthy!
The Winfield Recreation Commission is a community partner with the mission to help community members of all ages in Winfield, Kansas and USD 465 with their personal wellness and a better quality of life through recreation, fitness, special events and leisure activities.
WRC offers a wide variety of programs with this mission in mind. WRC also operates the Joe Thornton Recreation and Fitness Center located at 624 College Street and the Southwestern Indoor Pool located at 2000 Warren Street.
